The Red Lion also offers a unique facility - the local village shop! This shop was created as the result of a project 75% funded by the East Midlands Development Agency through and with the support of Pub is the Hub.

 

When built it fulfilled a need in the community for a local shop, selling a variety of everyday items, including local produce. Previously, local people had to travel 4 miles to Alford to visit the nearest shop. The pub and the community were equally involved in the project, which received written support from 81 local people, together with the Parish Council. The project received the full support and backing from the pub owners, George Bateman Brewery, and the local authority were also supportive of the project.
